I'm not familiar with "Metal Method," but I can highly recommend the 3-DVD set "Rock Guitar" produced by Rock House. It starts with the very basics, then works its way through chords, tablature, soloing, and gaining finger speed and dexterity. It's geared toward metal players, but is incredibly useful to anyone seeking to become a more versatile guitarist. And there are books that accompany the DVDs to detail the information covered.
