I've just picked up the acoustic and electric guitar recently, and have been learning the notes, different chords, etc. However, I currently can't squeeze guitar lessons into my busy schedule, so I was wondering if there was a specific book that pretty much spanned from beginner guitar well into intermediate/advanced type of stuff (kind of like the Arban for trumpets). I know no book can ever replace a real live teacher, but I was wondering if anyone could suggest the best one possible that I could work with to improve my skills until summer, when I can start getting real lessons.
As a self taught gitar player, pick up the 3 book series from Berklee School of music. The idea behind these books is relatively simple.
You do one lesson a week. Then you move on to the 2nd. I used them and mastered the guitar without any teacher. I taught if over the years and practice was the key.
After fiishingbook 1, move to 2 and then 3. Once you reach the second book, you should know your scales and play relatively quite fast.
The rest is up to you. What comes from the heart and soul is what makes good improvisation.
