There’s been a few "child prodigies" here in Austin. The most famous was Jake Andrews. He was playing at Antone’s night club when he was 13 along with blues greats like Albert Collins, Stevie Ray, and others.
He was (and still is) really really good! However, a lot of his appeal was the fact that he was this young kid that was really wailing the blues. He still plays around town, but derives most of his income from teaching now.
His father was apparently very well connected to the right people in the music industry as well, and that’s was got him his first breaks. How well are your parents connected?
But, I gotta ask you the hard question. Why in all that’s holy do you need a Triple Recto? Planning on playing arena gigs sometime soon? That’s just a whole lot more amp then you’re going to be able to use. If you turn it down to a level that doesn’t get you arrested, they don’t sound that great. Turn it up where it sounds good, and you’ll have the police calling on you in no time (unless you live in the country on several acres, in which case, rock on!).
And have you ever tried to pick up one of those heads or cabinets? Is your dad ready to sign on as your guitar tech (and does he have a truck or van to haul it around in)? Think this through.
And what kind of guitar are you plugging into this monster (please don’t tell me a Squire or Epiphone…I’ll puke).
I admire you for wanting to go out and earn to money for your gear…most folks your age would just whine to mommy and daddy. So, I salute you. But please think about what you’re wanting to get into.
Greetings from Austin, TX
