Learning How To Play The Guitar

Learning to play the guitar is an aspiration that many people have. Unfortunately knowing how to play the guitar correctly can be more difficult than you had expected. This is why many people give in after only a few lessons. The same applies for many different musical instruments. It is important to take the commitment in learning to play the guitar, before you can succeed in playing it well.

Learning the basic steps is of great importance, as is making the time for practice sessions in order to be able to play the guitar well. These basic steps include:

1.	Owing your own guitar is the first step. Even though it is possible to purchase guitars for a cheap price at places such as eBay and department stores, it really is worth considering spending a little more money and purchasing a well-made guitar if you are serious about learning. What type of guitar you wish to purchase is another decision that you need to take seriously. You may wish to begin with an acoustic guitar rather than an electric guitar. You may even wish to learn to play the bass guitar.

2.	The basic open chords should be the first thing to learn to play on your guitar. Beginners typically learn C, D, G, and A. A chord progression is simply a series of chords that make up a piece of music. The G-C-D chord progression is generally followed in many rock songs. Therefore, once you have learned to play these chords, it should be possible for you to follow along with hundreds of songs. Handy charts of commonly used open position guitar chords can be found on the Internet which will get you started.

3.	Tablature, or otherwise known as tabs, should be the next thing that you learn. These show you exactly where your fingers should be placed when you play a chord to a song. Tabs also show you where the words match to the music, and when to tablature for literally thousands of songs.

4.	Barre chords should also be learnt. Barre chords are chord shapes whereby one or more fingers are used to hold down multiple strings across the fingerboard of the guitar. Barre chords are also known as bar chords or moveable chords, due to it being possible to move them up or down the neck of the guitar as required.

5.	Practice is the most important factor to playing a guitar. Never expect to become an expert overnight, because it won’t happen. All musicians, regardless of how naturally gifted they are, have had to put in hours of practice. However, it need not be too hard. Practicing and playing songs is great fun, especially when they are songs that you really like. Give some effort when learning to play the guitar and you will be rewarded.

How To Play The Guitar?Starting Today

You can learn how to play the guitar today with just a few easy tips that will get you started on the right note. Playing the guitar doesn’t have to be hard. You have to make sure you are aware of some of the rules that come with learning how to play it properly. In this article I am going to talk about three of the rules you should follow when learning to play. Two of the rules will be about how you will be handling the guitar and the third rule will be about how you can make sure you get the most out of learning to play before you decide to move on to more advanced stages. Follow these tips and you’ll be learning how to play the guitar in no time.

You must make sure your fingernails are trimmed:

Making sure your fingernails are trimmed will prevent you from a lot of frustration down the line. Your fingernails should not be so long that they go past the meat of your finger. Take care to trim them properly because they will be close to the strings of the guitar you’re going to be playing. If they go past the meat they could end up damaging your guitar as you are stroking the chords. Make sure this doesn’t happen by keeping your nails trimmed as low as possible so that they don’t get in they way.

Prepare for a little pain in your fingers as you learn:

You will have to prepare for a little discomfort in your fingers when you first start learning how to play the guitar. This is a problem that most serious musicians go through when they start playing. You don’t have to worry though; as you gain experience you will develop a callous on your fingers and some other parts of your hands that will make it easier for you to handle playing the guitar. You should get this out of the way in the first few weeks and then you will be ready for some of the more intense practicing sessions.

Make sure you master each lesson before moving on:

Make sure you master each lesson before you move on or you will constantly have to go over it over and over again. If you are trying to progress in learning how to play the guitar, you cannot afford to keep taking steps back. Whatever you learn, make sure that you are clear about its application before you go to the next lesson. If you are teaching yourself the same rules will apply. If you have a teacher then they will be able to make sure you understand what you are learning before you move on without mastering what you need to know to succeed at the next level.

These basics are easy to learn and you should make sure you have them out of the way before you go into more serious steps. Making sure your fingernails are properly trimmed before even starting, be prepared to take a little pain in your fingers to build a callous, and make sure you understand what you’re learning before moving on. Learning to play the guitar today is simple if you have these three rules down.

Learning To Play A Guitar: Some Things To Keep In Mind

There are mistakes that every beginning guitar player makes, and it takes time to learn the correct technique. Do not expect overnight results. If you stick with it, you will get the results that you are looking for.

The Best Way To Learn Guitar

Most people choose to learn to play a guitar so they can sing while playing, whether it is other people’s songs, or their own. If you’ve never picked up a guitar before, you have some work ahead of you. It may look easy when you watch a professional musician, but you have to remember that, at some point, they were right where you are now. Nobody has ever picked up a guitar for the first time and started singing a song while playing, and you shouldn’t expect yourself to be the first. What you need are beginning guitar lessons, where you will learn the basics, before you jump right in.

For someone to be able to sing while playing, it takes a great deal of practice and control. Once you teach yourself to play guitar at a basic level, then you can begin to add lyrics. The key is to choose the right song when you first start out. Begin with easier songs with fewer chord progressions. Make sure that you listen to the song a few times before trying to play it, to get a feel for the rhythm and tone.

Once you have listened to the song two or three times, and you feel that you have it memorized, you can start playing it slowly on your own. You can even try playing stanza by stanza before attempting the entire song. If you don’t get it on your first try, do not get discouraged. Everyone makes mistakes when learning to play the guitar. Do not expect too much of yourself. You can’t play perfectly in 15 minutes.

Every professional guitar player started out by making the same mistakes that beginners do. Making mistakes is the best way to learn, and it is no reason to give up. If you honestly feel that you can not learn on your own, there are dozens of magazines, books, and videos available with beginning guitar lessons to help you learn. Usually, they have step by step procedures for you to follow that will help you learn the right techniques.

There are also many beginner guitar lessons online. These resources are often designed to help you learn guitar fast by teaching innovative ways to perfect your technique. These types of lessons are exceptionally efficient, and will help you cut down the learning curve.

Above all else, never force yourself to practice. If your hands are tired, make sure that you rest them. If you get frustrated, walk away. If you continue to practice under these conditions, it will make your technique sloppy, and it will stop being fun. Remember that there’s always tomorrow. Learning to play the guitar is a never-ending process. Even after you have moved past the beginner phase, there are always new techniques to learn.

Walter Day gave a quick surprise concert. Walter’s high School buddy Ray had a Guitar in his car and talked Walter into giving the crowd outside a little concert. It was awesome. Totally uncut and unplugged. Walter said in his own words that he was a little rusty but he definately drew a crowd and everyone that was there was very appreciative. It was hands down the best part of the whole Classic Gaming Tournament. Special thanks to Gary Vincent of www.classicarcademuseum.org and Walter Day of http and Funspot founder, Bob Lawton of www.funspotnh.com Also special thank to Billy Mitchell http for letting us call him and taking the time to talk with us. That is the bonus footage at the end. Visit Photos of the Even at extendedplayarcade.com Also Walter Day gave me permission to post this on the web for you all to enjoy. I am sorry about the two drop frames in the video. I was using my hand held camera instead of my HVX-200 Production HD Video Camera.

Once you learn to play the guitar, it’s natural to want to take the next step to play fast guitar. The first songs that you began with might start sounding dull and their not challenging any more.

Plus, if you really want to impress anyone to reserve a spot in any sort of band, it’s nice to have some speed behind your licks when you try-out. Here are 7 tips that will get you whipped into playing fast guitar.

1. Practice guitars slides.

Sliding your fingers more on the guitar can greatly improve your speed by strengthening your calluses. If your finger calluses are strong, it’s easier to move your fingers at a rate to play fast guitar.

2. Learn some guitar scales for each practice.

If you have a favorite lick on a string, transfer that lick to the other five strings and turn it into a scale. It doesn’t matter if the lick follows any sort of theory. What matters is making your fingers used to the repetition.

3. Keep your thumb in the middle of the back of the guitar neck.

To play fast guitar you really need to rely on the reach of your fingers. If you allow your fingers to do most of the work by keeping your thumb behind the neck more often, you’ll find your speed increases.

4. Wash your hands before playing.

Have you noticed that it’s easier to play things in the dead of the winter? That’s because your fingers are usually drier and cleaner.

Wash your hands before each practice and you’ll keep your strings cleaner, your hands cleaner, and your calluses firm for speed.

5. Have your guitar’s bridge adjusted.

A lot of the time, it’s difficult to play fast guitar only because your guitar’s strings are not at the right height for optimum speeds and strumming. Take your guitar down to your local music store and have the bridge adjusted so that the guitar strings are easier to press down.

6. Start with extra light strings.

If thicker and firmer strings are slowing you down, stick to lighter strings. There are hundreds of brands and types of strings to choose from so maybe you just haven’t found the right strings for you yet.

7. Keep a log of your progress.

If you keep a log of what you’ve accomplished and how long it’s taken you, you’ll be ready take on more challenges having to do with your guitar speed. With written proof of the process, you can streamline your goal of playing fast guitar.
