Guitar Hero 3 Expansion Port on PS3 Guitar Controller?

I was looking on my guitar hero 3 controller for ps3 and i found what looks like a telephone line input. so i read the manual and it said its an expansion port. so my question is what does the expansion port do??

for a pedal (whammy and star power activation)… im not sure if there's one out, but thats what its for!
