Guitar Courses Reviewed: Most Aren't Worth A Lick!

How do I get my guitar to "sit" in my mix???

using ,cakewalk sonar 4 and 5,with sound canvas midi, and of course my guitar

The trick to it is first mixing the levels of your bass and drums, then adding in the other elements like guitar. The two most common tools is EQ and compression (And these are used for nearly everything, not just guitar). EQ can help really bring out the guitar sound if correctly applied, but don’t expect it to dynamicly change the whole guitar sound. Ensure that when you record it, the recording sounds as much like the final product as it can. Secondly, use a good compressor to reign in the peaks and bring it more in line with the rest of the track. Don’t overdo it, or it will sound flat and uninteresting.

I recommend checking out soundonsound.com and reading some of their beginning guides – very, very handy.

Lastly, it takes a while to get your ears ‘used’ to mixing, so just keep at it. Take plenty of breaks, too.

Hope this helps.
