Yngwie is a guitar master and has refined his skills through out the year to a point where even the most complex and difficult riffs are nearly muscle memory to him. To begin to under stand Malmsteen you need to be dedicated to the technique, music, and theory behind the music. Yngwie uses many complex scales, arpeggios and techniques. To begin I suggest perfecting your pick technique. After that learn you scales and pay extra attention to your minor, phrigian minor, harmonic minor, and hungarian minor scales. After you have learned these and are comfortable with these scales I suggest learning how to make these scales out of music theory. If you want to play like Malmsteen I would recommend you engulf your self in theory because that’s what neoclassical is all about. Learn to sweep pick, it is very difficult but necessary to play like Malmsteen. This is a cornerstone of his music. Focus on diminished, diminished 7th, major, and minor arpeggios. Even after you have done these things it will still take a significant amount of time to start to resemble the sound of Yngwie Malmsteen.
