I play the electric bass in my school band, and my teacher asked me to try out the double bass tomorrow. The main thing I'm concerned about is my fingering. I'm trying to get a correct grip on my electric bass, but I find it much easier to have my palm against the neck of the guitar. How should I correct my grip quickly? Thanks in advance!
"Double bass" isn't a guitar. Its the bass member of the violin family, also called the "upright bass". It's tuned the same as a bass guitar, but you don't hold it like a guitar, and most importantly, it has NO frets the way a bass guitar does, and the scale length is significantly longer so its a little harder to play. You may not be able to just pick it up and play it the way you do an electric bass guitar. So I hope your teacher isn't planning on having you play anything complicated tomorrow! You're going to need some time to practice on the double bass before you can play it as well as you can play the electric bass.
