I just made a banjo out of a cookie tin and a 2×2 and it sound good and can hold a tuning on the five strings, but I'm not into the work of spacing frets correctly on the neck. How are fretless banjos in particular played? Should i use that glass tube that you hold on your finger?
I've never heard of fretless banjos and guitars in production, but your suggestion makes sense. A Hawaii banjo–that's a new one.
