How do you play Higher octaves on the guitar?

K so I am teaching myself how to play the guitar and i want to know how you play the higher octaves on the guitar… like lets say C except higher pitched etc.

so…

- How do you play it
- how do you know when to play it
- are the fingerings the same just in a different place?
-How do you know where to put ur fingers?

THANK YOU SOOO MUCH:)

If you want to play a higher octave, just move your finger up 12 frets on the same string. The same note can be played on the next lowest string if u go up 5 more frets, and down one string. Except for the B and the G string, which is only a four fret difference. Example, a F note is 1st fret E string. The octave is 13th fret E string. If u want to play the same note on the B string, Then u move down to that string from the 13th fret, and then add 5 frets which will take u up to the 18th fret in the B string.

And with the B and G string, the difference is only 4 frets. So, a C is 1st fret B string. Move up 12 frets, and u got the higher C. And if u want to play the same note on the G string, u move it up 4 frets. Example, 13th fret B string=17th fret G string. All the other stings are 5th fret differences except for the B and G strings
