Hi, I’ve gotten pretty good at guitar, but don’t know how to play songs by reading tabs like this http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/t/toby_keith/god_love_her_crd.htm Thank you.
If you want to start reading chords. Then visit www.getguitar.hpage.com
and check out the songs page. There’s a list of easy songs there using only chords. Most songs will work with sixteen beats and use 4 chords. E.g If there is a Bm, F#m, A, E then you would strum a Bm for 4 beats then the F#m for 4 beats then the A for 4 beats then the E for 4 beats. To find how to play a Bm, F#m, A and an E go to the "chordiagrams page and there is every chord finger pattern you could ever need there. If you don’t know how to read these diagrams pls email me shannyn_d_oliver@yahoo.com.au and I can explain. Reading TAB is much the same as reading chord patterns. If for example a tab is written
E—2——————————–
B———3————————–
G—2——————————-
D———————————-
A———————————-
E———————————-
Then when looking at TAB you need to know the top line is the bottom string of your guitar. The number resembles which fret to play and on what string. So for the TAB above you would have a finger on your thin E string on the 2nd fret and the G string on the second fret and because the numbers are directly under each other you play the two notes together. Then you would play the B string on the 3rd fret after you play the two notes together. Once you know your chords you will realize this is a D chord formation so you could have all your fingers in that pattern ready to play the TABBED strings. It gets difficult when the TAB gets more complex and there’s symbols but most TAB will explain what the mean e.g h- hammer on p- pull off / slide back \ slide forward etc. Hope this has helped you. P.S please beware of ultimate guitar and chordie .com they both are reasonably accurate sites but I have had a lot of problems with inaccurate TABS and CHORDS. My site is updated daily with 1x new song added and I only put songs up that are correct and accurate and easy but cool!!!
