Uhm, I don’t get it. Should I take it literally? I’ve had my guitar for well, 4 months now and I only know the basic chords, God I suck!1!!!
I’m too lazy to read tablature they’re so frustratingly complicated..
How can I play "by ear"?

You have to practice in guitar hero to get to expert.
Hate to bust your bubble, but it’s practice, Practice, PRACTICE!
Why don’t you get a teacher – someone you trust and can understand? Even if you don’t take lessons for years, but just one time or a few times? The teacher will have been in your shoes, and can offer LOTS of tips (I am a guitar & piano teacher!)
Or, you could buy "Learn & Master Guitar", which costs a bit, but you might love it, and you have 60 days to send it back, and can make monthly payments.
Playing by ear requires that you first learn your basic chords, then you can use a lead sheet, or fake book, etc. But, you’ve got to learn and practice. HOWEVER, it should always be fun.
Hang in there – if you love it, you’ll find a way. It’s hard, but it should be fun!
