How do you play bass in guitar hero 4 for ps2?

iv always just played lead guitar so i decided to try bass, but when i started to play i was hitting the notes but it was like they were registering, and then these flat lines would should up and i had no idea what to do, and i cant find the training mode cuz its not on the main menu screen! help!

The flat lines are open notes, which means you just strum without hitting any of the note buttons.

purple flat lines means you have to "open strum"

just strum without pushing any frets down.

if there rainbow, that means your on beginner, and you have to open strum. (on drums hit any note)

and on drums the lines mean bass pedal

ps training might be in practice mode. I havnt played ghwt in a while, mostly gh: metallica

did i mention i can beat through the fire and the flames on expert guitar? (gh3)
