I play guitar and I love the band the Runaways, but I can’t find any videos or websites on the internet showing me how to play any of their songs. Any links, videos, music books, or anything is good, except I can’t read tabs. I can only read regular notes and chords. Video tutorials are best, but anything else is good.
I also want to know what kind of guitar Joan/Lita used and any other things like humbuckers or special strings. thanks.
What is the difference between humbuckers and pickups?
Joan is most identified with an old Gibson Melody Maker that was supposedly given to her by Eric Carmen of The Raspberries. In interviews, she mentions that the bridge pickup in that guitar was called a Velvet Hammer. They are still available today (www.velvethammerpickups.com). Gibson even sells a Joan Jett signature model Melody Maker now.
Lita Ford was mostly seen playing BC Rich guitars, at least after she went solo.
Amps…they used whatever was supplied to them. Marshalls mostly, but when they toured the amps were provided by the local promoters.
Finally, a humbucker is a pickup. At the risk of getting technical, a humbucker pickup has two coils of wire wound and connected together in such a way that it cancels out any extraneous noise or interference that might get received by the pickup. A single coil pickup (like on a Fender strat style guitar) does not do this, and thus will have more noise and hum.
The two kinds of pickups sound very different. The single coil is a thinner, brighter sound. The humbucker has a warmer, thicker tone.
