How to record something playing (guitar) outside but record it through computer?

Hey, I play guitar and i wanna add a good video on youtube. So, i will be playing a song and record it through my computer. Is there any way i can do it?

Well if your using a desktop computer.. I’m guessing your using a Web Cam. If should have software with it that I’m assuming records sound input too, if you have something plugged into the Mic or Lin-In port on the computer.
To get the best possible sound quality you need to have your guitar plugged directly into the computers Line In port. I think you’ll need to plug your guitar into the amp first(if its electric), then there might be an output connection from the amp that you can plug into the computer, probably will have to go o Radio Shak or something to get adapters for it. If no output connection on the amp try just plugging it straight into the computer Line In.

If your using an Acoustic guitar, you’ll just have to get a decent Mic and plug that into the Line In on the computer, a decent mic would only cost around 30 bucks at somewhere like Target.

Then on the computer somewhere in the sound properties under control panel, there is a sound setting where you can check wether the sound input(recording) is set to Mic or Line In, set it to whatever you plug it in to on the computer(line in), and make sure the volume on it it up, keep that window open to adjust it as needed. I think you have to open the Volume control, then go into its properties, check the Recording box, hit OK, then it shows the recording options, or something like that…

Then you need something that records your video with sound, I’m guessing it should automatically record the sound too, but if not you may have to check the video program for the sound settings.

It can be quite a hassle and take a lot of tries to get it right, but it CAN be done.
