I have been playing guitar for eight years now and I never realized this till now, but i can’t use my pinkie when I play guitar. As dumb of a situation as this sounds, are there any helpful tips for learning to use my pinkie when I play guitar?
I totally understand where you’re coming from. I personally got seriously acquainted with the guitar through my step father and he to never used his pinkie as much as he should have but preferred to use his first 3 fingers only. Although u can pull of a lot just using 3 fingers It is always good to maximize your capabilities by using all your resources.
For me, I spent about a month or 2 working just on the Chromatic scales(quasi Chromatic) and this helped me prepare the pinkie for the more hectic hammer on and pull offs. It also prepared me for the more complex exercises with the different modes and scales.
If you’re wondering what the quasi chromatic scale is, its basically making sure that each finger takes on one fret and works its way up and down in latitude to the neck. Once you’re comfortable with one part you should start at another as this will help you get used to the different spacings between frets.
I hope this has been helpful for you in getting to the next level of guitar playing! (“,)
