Guitar Courses Reviewed: Most Aren't Worth A Lick!

I need help with my next course of action in learning guitar.?

I've been taking some Rhythm Guitar Lessons for a few months now, but since I want to learn mainly lead the teacher is running out of things to teach me. I'm wondering what my best course of action would be for beginning to learn lead, and continuing to learn some rhythm. I'm really not sure what I should do next, whether I should just find tabs and play them, or something else.(I'm fairly sure that the tabs won't help me much as a musician)
A new teacher isn't possible for reasons I won't go into detail with.

You'll probably want to learn your major scales and minor (blues) scales next. These will eventually get you to where you want to be. The great thing about learning the minor scales is you can listen and play along with many blues songs that out there after just learning the first position. It's great fun.
