My brother (who plays guitar) said something to me that I should start learning with an acoustic guitar, then when I’ve got that learned, move onto electric guitar.. But why? Like, what is the purpose of that? And should I do that?
If you want to learn electric than learn on an electric. An acoustic is more likely to create much needed calluses on your fingers. There is also more tension so if you ever did make the transition from acoustic to electric it would be easier for you to play. It also doesn’t require an amplifier which is a whole differant playing field and cost. Your brother was trying to lead you in the right direction. However, ultimately it is your decision and it could very well be dependent on the style of music you may want to play.
