As for being prepared to start playing…I’m not. I’m saving up for a guitar, but the only experience I have playing guitar, or a guitar shaped object would be playing Guitar Hero, if that even counts. So how should I start? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Getting a guitar is a good starting point. There are some online tutorials you could google and find, but I’d recommend getting a teacher and a book to practice from. If you can’t afford a teacher and weekly lessons, I’d still recommend getting the book or a DVD based tutorial just so you can practice away from your computer. There’s a lot of good information on the internet though that wasn’t available 37 years ago when I started playing guitar. I recommend you don’t just buy a guitar and start looking up tabs of your favorite songs though. Actually learn how to play the guitar, what the notes are, the scales, chord shapes, and stuff. Don’t just look at a picture and put your fingers where it tells you to without knowing why. Good luck with it.
