well, im 13. and i loooove Nirvana!!!! so so so much. for a while now ive been thinkning i want to learn to play guitar. but im nervous because i know i will suck and Kurt Cobain being such an amazing guitar player, i have a lot to live up to. i mean, i LOVE Kurt! and Nirvana, of course. soo… idk. what should i do? learn to play? how do i start? my friend the other day was like “dude! every Nirvana fan has to play guitar!” so now i feel bad i dont play. so ya, what do i do? how do i start? i dont know the first thing! i dont even know how to hold a guitar! im right handed. my older cousin gave me his old acoustic guitar. can i try to teach myself on that, with a little of his help or the internet? Tthanks a lot for helping me!!! u have no idea how much of a life saver u r

Well you have the choice of getting guitar lessons from a teacher in your area, but before you do that I would recommend trying online lessons first. These are usually free and if they work for you, you can always consider getting lessons from a guitar teacher later.

However, you’re going to need lessons with video. These are so much better than text only lessons and if you’re a beginner text only lessons will more than likely only confuse you.

Here’s what you’ll have to start off with
- Learn basic guitar technique (how to hold the instrument, hand
positions etc.)
- How to strum
- Basic guitar chords

All of that can be done in a couple of weeks, after which you can start looking at more advanced stuff like scales and techniques.

This site has some free video lessons for absolute beginners and assume you know nothing or close to nothing. It covers all the stuff I talked about above.
