A guitar teacher that is an experienced player can really get you in gear to move ahead with your guitar progress.  

A guitar teacher that has years of experience can benefit you, and have a big effect on your playing.  Think, he has been where you are asking and pondering which way to go, or how to learn best just one small technique on the guitar.

Lets look at it this way. The older experienced guitar teacher long ago learned a lesson about the guitar.  He learned it the way he was shown.  This does not mean he always stuck to understanding it that way.  As he progressed he looked at things differently, and found a better way of understanding to learn that topic of playing the guitar. Years later he changed his mind again, and learned and saw things even more deepert.  This happens over and over again as he progress on the guitar.

I am conveying to you the experienced teacher goes down many path ways to get to where he is.  When he teaches now he has a bigger picture of how to integrate all the different ways he has understood it. His hard work is very valuable to you.

Teaching what may seem like a small easy task to teach is more complex than you think.  There are different approaches to teach the student, so the student 20 years later will be able to aply it to more complex lessons. This is so true even with players that have been playing for 15 years, and find they are stuck in a box with there playing. When they feel its time in their heart, they seek out an experienced guitar teacher that can shine new light on the study of guitar.

An experienced guitar teacher can help you in so many ways, weather you play rock, metal, folk, jazz, blues, and so on. All of these styles have different ways to get the sound they want, but it is all music and notes and methods.

Remember a music lesson can be taught without your instrument in hand. These lessons  can be the best lessons sometimes, because if you had the instrument in hand you would be applying the music lesson right away to your old perception on the instrument, and this can extremely hold you back.

Do you see what I am saying?  One way of looking at it is when a champion chess player makes a move he is thinking what effect it will have on his next move, and  the moves ahead.  This analogy can help you see what I am saying about learning the guitar well.  The steps you take to learn one lesson on the guitar will influence all the other lessons to be learned in the days to come.  

If you truly love learning the guitar you are learning to play music.  If you love to play the blues, go for it.  If you love to play awesome speed finger taping licks, go for it.  If you love to finger pick the guitar and sing, go for it. If you are not sure where you are going but you just love the sound of a acoustic or electric guitar, don’t struggle with the thought of where am I going right away. Learn the fundamentals, and enjoy learning with your teacher your favourite songs,and basic techniques.

An experienced teacher can see your strengths and recognize your hidden talent for some area of music or guitar playing. He without words slowly guides you in the right direction. One day all of a sudden some interest in a style of guitar will come to you.  A song, or a guitar sound, or a guitar technique you hear in a song or from  a guitar player.  It will make the hairs on your arm stand up.  As a beginner this is the when you really feel you are getting what you want from your lessons.  

A lot of guitar players start and then quit because they did not find the type of guitar playing that would motivate them to learn.  An experienced teacher can guide the student to find that hidden talent. You may find you want to play another instrument, or you want to study singing. You may find you want to move into the field of music engineering, production, management, or opening up a  guitar store one day.
