Need some advice on learning how to play the guitar?

Ok so i’m a thirteen year old girl, wanting to learn how to play guitar. I don’t really want to play professionally, I’d rather play as a hobby.

My dad knows someone that can teach me for free..but the thing is I would much much rather play electric guitar instead of acoustic, but my dad has told me I have to learn on acoustic and then move onto electric. Is this true?

And could anyone please recommend some good electric guitar brands? I quite like the look of fender stratocaster standards, and they’re also not too expensive but then again I don’t know anything about guitars at all!

Thank you xx

One of the best things that you can do in order to learn an electric guitar is to learn acoustic guitar to begin with. This will actually enable you to hear the notes that you are playing enhancing your effectiveness and accuracy. Once you feel comfortable enough on an acoustic guitar, only then should you try and move on to an electric one. An electric guitar is a bit more sophisticated as you will have to understand the functioning of the amplifier, straps and pedals. An electric guitar and certain devices related to it can cost a high amount and you should buy the best quality device only.

After you have bought the best guitar and its devices, you can start playing. This is where your skills which you developed with the help of an acoustic guitar can be seen. If you have practiced a lot on the acoustic device, then playing electric guitar will be a piece of cake or it would only take sometime in order to get used to it. An electric guitar instructor can also help a great deal because only a teacher can point out the flaws which would allow you work in a better and refined way.

So, I’d recommend getting an acoustic guitar first, dominate it and get comfortable with it and a few months later you can buy an electric guitar.
