Can someone recommend a VERY beginners book on how to play the guitar?

Posted by Rob · Sunday

I have an electric guitar right now. I want to play rock. The only thing is, I REFUSE to buy a book that’s going to call me a dummy or an idiot (i.e – complete idiots guide to..) But I want a book that is practically written for idiots. :) Any suggestions?

I’d suggest a software program.

eMedia’s Guitar Method (for beginners) is amazing. I bought it 3 years after playing guitar, and wish I had it from the start. It’s very easy to follow, teaches you nearly everything you need to know in one CD, and…you can learn it all pretty quickly.

Why not just go find a teacher that will teach you?

I think it would be better that way, and you will learn faster!

I still say finding a teacher is the best way to go!

‘Guitar For Dummies’ I’m backing up the first answer.

Look, it’s a joke. Dont take the cover seriously. It’s the most useful book i ever read as a beginner. Teaching myself was heaps easier with it. It’s not like it patronizes you all the way through. It makes it easy to understand, speaks in a casual manner to keep it interesting. Just an overall very well laid out and useful book.

Highly reccomended.
