If you take away the instrumental comparison that other genres rely on, “BUT THEY PLAY GUITARS REALLY FAST!”
How would you rate hip hop as far as the intelligence needed to make the music and its artists’ influence on elements of thinking and culture?

It kind of depends on the particular musicians you listen to. There are rappers that are intellectual stimulants and there are rappers that are not. The same with rock. So because there is such a diverse arena of artists i would say 7.5/10.
*edit*- This is almost impossible to answer accurately. I mean, Chingy obviously doesn’t focus on dissecting the theory of relativity on his albums, but Rakim says some righteous sh*t. You really can’t rate the whole genre.
*edit2*- Besides, ANYONE who rates a whole genre at all (specifically negatively) are not taking all of the artists involved in said genre into consideration. There has to be at least ONE artist you like from a genre as wide as hip hop.
