There are a ton of ways to learn how to play guitar. You need to decide what is it about the guitar that makes you want to dedicate yourself to learning it. And, make sure you know what you want before you start looking for instruction on how to play guitar.

For example

-Do you want to be able to play a rock solo?
-Do you like the intimate sounds of an acoustic, or a classical guitar?
-Do you want to do “tricks” like hammering and two handed techniques?
-Do you want to just pickup girls?

You will never be a master of all guitar styles, so it’s best to decide what style you want to get good at before you look for resources on how to play guitar.

Don’t take classical guitar lessons from a heavy metal shredder, and don’t take trash metal lessons from a jazz guitar player (unless they can show you how well they play that style first)

The first 8 years I took guitar lessons I don’t recall ever hearing my teacher play. That’s nuts! Make sure you audition any resource before you commit your time to it.

Whether it be an online course, or a weekly guitar lesson, make sure they can play, and you like how they play guitar, before you pay a penny to have someone teach you how to play guitar.

Rick Washbrook – How To Play The Guitar – Every One Learns Differently

Rick Washbrook – How To Play The Guitar – Every One Learns Differently

The subject of learning I have examined for years. How to play guitar. I truly have witnessed some students excel in a logical intellectual manner, and someone else appear to be extremely week at that approach. This does not mean that one is weaker and doesn’t understand the lesson. The other type of learner is more gifted to learn from a spacial or intuitive approach, and will learn at a different pass. If anything, I have seen that they understand it in a deeper more advanced level.

Everyone in life finds some discipline. The word discipline referring to how to play guitar for example. Never underestimate the slow learner. They can turn out to be better players in the end when compared to the students that understood, and played better in the beginning.

It is the hidden talent in them was obscured. It took them a little more time. The weaker players latent potential can be far more vast in understanding the guitar and music, of course they have to work at it. Some students are natural guitar players but are not interested in the guitar.

To sum up my teaching beliefs and experience. I had a wonderful music teacher Mr.Magrath.
I studied with in high school. He excited my creative thoughts. I looked forward to his lessons.

I remember him explaining to us young kids many times that music has to do with everything. This is very hard to understand when your just 17. We slowly understood him. Some would understand his comment from their own experience of loving music. Others would understand it from body movement and dance, and others want to understand how many bars is each section, and when does the composer introduce the theme melody with the other instruments, and so on.

If music has to do with everything then why not math, has to do with everything, and so on, and so on.

In life we find artistic learners, logical mathematical learners, body movement types, music artist learners, interpersonal learners, and intra-personal out going learners, linguistic learners, and so on. We all are all so beautifully different.

Discipline doesn’t just mean for a father to say finish all the dinner before leaving the table.
The other meaning of discipline is. The discipline of woodworking, the discipline of how to play guitar, math, spacial body movement expression, the discipline of playing football, the discipline of helping people like a social worker.

Young or old….. an old dog can learn new tricks. It is never to late to learn a new discipline. Why? Young or old, each of us has a discipline we know well and enjoy.
When you want to learn something new one should learn it through their eyes of the discipline they already know well. This is the key.

“Rick Washbrook is one of the best guitarist in North America. He is humble and never has never shown an ego about his talent or acted like he is the “amazing guitarist.”
I admire that about him. Musicians all around love jamming with Rick, laughing, being around him. I recognize through Washbrook that we can, break on through to the other side, He transcends when he performs. We reach a point when it is not so much playing the guitar, but we are the music.”

“If the sign of an artist is the melding of chops/technical proficiency and soul, Washbrook’s guitar playing is the work of a maestro. An articulate musician, deeply joyful, soulful, and spiritual”

Karl Stober: Free lance writer, jazz critic
“Some have described Rick Washbrook as a gypsy, which is not far from the truth, living here and there, always on the move. I look at him as the ardent troubadour.

Charley Patton The Founder Of The Delta Blues- The Legend Lives On

Though he used to write his name as Charlie Patton, yet popularly called Charley, is considered as the father and proponent of the American Delta Blues genre of music. This style is one of the oldest renditions of blues style of music and hence it made Charley Patton as one of the oldest known figures of American Popular Music.

Said to be been born in the year 1887 and have died in 1934, Charlie Patton is still considered one of the most influential figures of American music.

Charley and the Early Years of Delta Blues:
Charlie Patton was born in Hinds County, Mississippi and had passed most of his life in the Mississippi Delta. He did most of his work on Delta Blues style from here and for that reason this style was also known as the Mississippi Delta Blues style of music. Most of that area was covered with extremely fertile land, yet poverty was rampant. The socio-economic condition became the soul of this genre. The cigar box guitar, guitar and harmonica formed the base for this genre’s music. The Unique style that separated it from other country blues was the Differentiating Factor.

Although there was not much of a subsequent rhythmic difference between Charlie Patton’s style and other country blues to have originated at the same time. Most of the areas had the same cultural background, yet Mississippi Delta Blues stood out because of its harmonic structure and theme that talked exhaustively about travelling musicians’ life, sexuality and life the delta.

Women also had a part in this style, but only a few made names for themselves. The Accolades for Charlie Patton and Delta Blues Style came even after his Death In 2001. Revenant records released a 5-CDs feature called Screamin’ and Hollerin’ Blues-The Worlds of Charley Patton. This included several released and unreleased works of Charlie Patton and his partners. This became an instant hit amongst the discerned music population and such was the magic of the genius after so many years, this album became a proud winner of not 1, but 3 Grammy Awards in the year 2003.

Not just a musician, a proper showman in himself, Charlie Patton was a charismatic figure who changed the course of American Popular Music. He was so down to earth that he gave blues Guitar lessons to the local enthusiasts, and at the same time became a larger than life figure with his raw and energetic voice. Stalwart like Bob Dylan to famed musicologist Robert Palmer have praised the contribution of the man popularly called Charley Patton and his legend lives on forever.

Tips On Guitar Playing That Make Learning The Guitar Easier And Successful

Learning the guitar can be done by anyone, as long as the person has the time, the serious desire, and the patience. If during the first few tries or lessons, you feel that it’s difficult, you should not give up that easily. Every professional music instrument player has gone through what you are experiencing right now. Below are several advices on how to play guitar and some tips on guitar playing that will make it easier for you to learn:

Tip A: Look for inspiration and remember that inspiration. This is one of the pointers you should follow if you wish to become successful in your lessons. Think about the person, or any thing that made you decide on learning the guitar. Was it your special someone? Is the famous musician the one who inspired you to take up tutorials or classes?

During the times wherein you feel like giving up, think of the professional music instrument player who served as your inspiration, or think of the ‘rewards’ you’ll get when you learn how to play guitar e.g. your crush will notice you, you’ll get to audition in talent shows, etc – this is really included in the list of effective tips on guitar playing that you should put into practice. A good idea is to watch music videos of your favorite guitarist, or attend a concert of your ‘guitar idol’ so that you’ll be motivated to continue learning.
Tip B: Whether you’re a novice player, or you have gotten the hang of being a music instrument player or you’re a pro guitarist, you have to bear in mind that the famous saying: ‘Practice makes perfect’ is always part of the list of techniques of how to play guitar properly and more easily. You should not only be committed to attending lessons or joining tutorials, but also be dedicated to practicing several times a month e.g. on a weekly basis, several times bi-weekly, and so on. Practicing frequently is one of the tips on guitar playing that you should not disregard because it is only through regular and serious practice that you can speedily complete learning the guitar and you can improve as a guitarist.

If you’re a novice music instrument player, remember to practice with easy songs before you try the harder songs or melodies. Make sure too that you practice properly e.g. with correct posture, with the right pick, with correct strumming, and so on, because practicing incorrectly will not really take you anywhere no matter how many times you do it.

Learning how to play guitar is really attainable as long as you become aware of and employ the tips on guitar playing discussed above.

The guitar has always had a novel appeal to music lovers. Listening to and watching accomplished guitar players perform shocking feats of dexterity as they coax from their instrument sounds that touch the souls of their listeners automatically makes some folks want to match the guitar strummer’s achievement. But this is the glamorous side of guitar playing.
If you learn to play guitar are you offered any real and lasting benefits? Is there a lifetime of ongoing rewards that lasts outside the initial thrill? Well, yes, and they can be approximately divided up into physical, emotional and psychological benefits. Most people’s's motor abilities are developed to the point of having the ability to throw and catch a ball or dress in the dark. Learning the guitar enables us to meet challenges of a kind that no other musical instrument can offer. The occasions to refine your motor abilities are limitless as you learn more chords and scales, more music which demands instant coordination between the left and the right hand with a control of the fine muscles that no other instrument demands of you.
of course, nobody can spend an hour or two a day maintaining a chilled posture while holding a guitar and practicing barre chords without lifting their level of fitness. This side of learning guitar may depend on what kind of teacher you have because many amateur guitarists have basically done damage to their bodies by making an attempt to play the guitar with too much tension in their bodies.

Guitar scholars often concentrate on learning the guitar fretboard as a task on its own. They feel that once you know all the notes in all the positions, you can get down to the business of playing the guitar. So, we should start this article with the statement that learning the guitar fretboard as a definite project is not necessary. If you learn how to play the guitar methodically, by learning scales and chords in different keys in the 1st position, and then go onto learning barre chords and playing scales further up the fretboard, after some months you will have a working understanding of the notes on the guitar.
If you choose to learn the guitar by learning chords, then playing some songs, then learning the notes on the guitar fretboard, it kind of feels like a less uninteresting and tedious task than learning how to play one key at a time, but it won’t be any quicker.
Learning the guitar fretboard is a fairly difficult job because there are really no giant, all-encompassing ideas that have a bearing on all the notes on the guitar. If you learn how to play the piano, you learn the notes in the octave.

when you’re learning the guitar fretboard you’ll find that there are no principles that you can apply to all of the strings. The notes in standard tuning are E A D G B E.

The C major scale can be discovered on the 1st and 6th strings on the guitar. You’ll notice that your guitar fretboard has dots that mark the third, fifth, 7th, ninth and 12th frets. These dots could be a agony because we come to depend on them to find the frets, although classical and flamenco guitar players manage quite well without them. But they can help us learn the position of the C major scale. The 1st and 6th strings sound E when they’re played open and the 1st fret is F, the third is G, the fifth is An and the 7th is B. That is where the dots run out, but you simply move up one fret to get C and to the tenth fret to get the note D.
So, you have made a start on learning the guitar fretboard by memorizing the C major scale on the E strings. The work concerned in learning these notes will not be wasted. To learn the notes on the other four guitar strings you’ll need to find other patterns but the C major scale and playing notes will be embellished on your brain and in your fingers, so you will be shocked at how fast learning the guitar fretboard in its entirety will pass.

Learn How to Play Guitar | Free Learn Guitar Lessons Online

Have you ever wanted to pick up the guitar and start strumming your favorite songs but procrastinated? What about admiring musicians who are performing on stage? Perhaps you would have even asked yourself: “How can I be like them?” Well, the first thing you got to do is to take action and learn the guitar.

Many new guitar players fall into the trap of jumping straight into learning difficult songs because they were motivated by the notion to play their favorites songs. These guitarists often skip learning the fundamentals of playing the guitar and overtime, they suffer from burnout as they find it increasingly difficult to achieve the results they want.

Well then, you’ll probably have this question in mind now. “Okay, I know I need to learn the fundamentals of playing the guitar but what exactly are they?” One of the first things that beginner guitarists need to know is basically how to tune a guitar. Just think of it, if you are playing an out of tuned guitar, how can anything sound good? Make it a point before every practice session that you ensure your guitars are tuned.

The next most important thing that novice guitarists should learn is the different parts of the guitar. Why? Many of the online guitar lessons will refer to specific parts of the guitar such as the bridge, body etc. Without prior knowledge of these guitar parts, a beginner guitar player may end up wasting more time and worse still, misinterpret the guitar lessons and learn the wrong stuff.

With its many capabilities and functions, the acoustic guitar is popular, yet classic instrument. The beautiful sound and finish make this a popular choice for those wanting to learn to play. The wide variety of sound provides endless opportunities along side the different styles like the bass and multi-stringed versions.

A traditional style guitar contains 6 strings. The traditional style is usually not compatible with the use of an amp but modifications have been made to the original design that now includes a port for amp use. The traditional style is good for beginners. It allows for easy mastery of different cords, notes, and rifts. Many options are available so that if one wanted to learn this type, the instrument and learning guides are available as a kit and can contain the shoulder strap, bag or case, and picks to help get started or one can go with an instructor

Some styles can have as many as 12 strings and are a little harder to learn. With a wider variety of notes and cords, the fundamentals are still the same. It is recommended that someone wanting to learn this instrument take lessons with an instructor as it can be confusing.

The Bass usually has four strings and is used to help keep time and melody with other instruments but can be played on its own. Usually longer in size, the same kit options are available for those wanting to learn. There are also many instructors that offer lessons on both the Bass and the traditional style.

A more advanced version of the bass is available and can have as many as 7 strings. This allows for a larger range of sound and in tuning. More difficult to master than the original bass, this style is still less complicated than the 12 string traditional guitar. Instructors are available for lessons but books and other media are available as well.

With many different types, styles, and options available, learning the acoustic guitar is possible. Accepted as a classical instrument by most performing art schools, it is a classic instrument to learn and is widely accepted. With a little effort and time one can learn to play through books, lessons, tapes, or other media with ease.

When you already have mastered an acoustic guitar, you could be planning to move on to another instrument. Learning how to play an electric guitar is a logical next step for many aspiring musicians.

I am confident that if you are visiting this page, you will be interested in DVD Guitar Instruction. I’m sure if you’re a new comer to your guitar like I remember when i was, you’ve realized that both hands will hurt should you play playing the guitar for awhile. Thanks for visiting an enormous amount of pain! With more and much more practice you’ll begin to understand that the fingers are just like every other muscle in your body, and also you need to warm them up like runners do. This can train your fingers in order to handle jamming for long periods without straining or other forms of annoying injuries.

If you are seeking for greatest deals and evaluations on this topic, than please go to how to play guitar. Keep the thought in your head that warmups are great for everyone, regardless of their level of skill. One more thing you should bear in mind is the fact that there aren’t any absolutes with regards to warm up exercises, all of us find the correct way and style for ourselves, also it just takes a little time. Here are a few of my suggestions:

To start with, wash your hands. I know this sounds strange, it’s really helpful! Tepid to warm water and soap will get the circulation flowing for your hands, and this can get them nice ready for any guitar jamming session. However that they’re washed, what now ? now?

Scales

As being a singer will sing scales before she begins her set, so in the event you warm-up with scales to get your fingers ready. You could even do some difficult capos or even basic things like A C D over and over again, upgrading and down the wires to get your ear attuned as to the you have to be jamming later. Gently move from easy to more challenging inside a fifteen minute period, bearing in mind you need to walk before you run, and people aching fingers and sore palms will begin to disappear with your improved playing habits.

Comeback of Blues

The blues can be a great way to warm-up. You can find notation and tabs for lots of blues songs, and incorporate it into your warm up routine. Play these for around 5 to 10 minutes, then resume your normal rehearsal plans.

Ultimately, you can develop great jamming habits by using guitar warm up exercises, take a little time, your hands will thank you for it.

Rhythm: For every good guitar jam track online, there are tons of mediocre ones. One of the biggest reasons for this is that many of them lack an interesting rhythmic component. They consist of a simple power chord progression that really doesn’t give you much to build your phrases/solos off of. Also, many of these jam tracks have the same rhythm the whole track. They don’t even give you an opportunity to change your phrasing by presenting you with several rhythmic variations. When deciding how valuable a guitar jam track is, rhythmic complexity should be an important factor.

One of the key elements of a good guitar jam track is a well thought out melody. This melody can’t take up all the musical space above the bass, but it should offer a more interesting upper voice to the track. The benefit of having a clear melody is that the player can hear the subtle interactions of their phrases with the melody. This can lead to a more interesting and fulfilling jam because there is a vocal quality to the leads. There is definite call and response characteristics and this puts what the guitarist is playing into more of a muscial context rather then just playing notes.

Many people don’t realize the impact the length of a jam track has on their enjoyment. It is a huge annoyance to anyone playing a solo/jamming when their backing band suddenly disappears out from under them. This could happen to you if you’re not careful in selecting a jam track that is long enough. If you look for three to five minute long tracks, you will probably find that this is the perfect amount of time. Any more and it may start to drag on and any less and you may be cut off prematurely.

The thing to strive for when picking jam tracks is to look for tracks that are in a different style then you would normally play. That way you will be forced to get out of your comfort zone and as a result, will grow as a musician. Always playing in the same key or style is a surefire way to get yourself into a playing rut. The key to developing your own style and improvisational voice is to experience as many different styles and rhythms as you can. Doing this may introduce you to a style/key/mode that you would never even have thought of yourself and it might even become a staple of your own style. Just remember that as far as jam tracks are concerned, different/unique is good.

A poorly recorded jam track is not worth much. If you can’t hear the small nuances of the composition, you are wasting your time. Using jam tracks is supposed to be fun and help you learn, but the worse the recording is, the harder it is for you to do either. This also goes for the dynamics of the tracks and the effects of the instruments. The more detail you can hear from the track, the more you will hear when your playing is over top.
