Guitar software on the other hand, that you load onto your computer and run on your computer, is always accessible without any internet access, and you have it on your computer to use the lessons for years, as opposed to being on a server elsewhere. You only pay one time, and can restudy the material as often as necessary. Retaking a lesson over, and over again, and referring back to the same lesson content at much later times, is essential to mastering the material.

Online guitar lessons also are often a smorgasbord of various ideas and concepts from various teachers. This provides no continuity of learning and leaves the guitar student with lots of neat ideas that are independent and various. This reflects in the students limited playing ability as it become obvious the student has no real understanding of the instrument other than in a fragmented way. So as you evaluate various learning systems such as guitar lessons software versus online guitar lessons, you can make more productive decisions for your personal learning choices as you are flooded with a tremendous amount of options for guitar learning.

Over the past several years, the market has been flooded with guitar software programs. While some of these programs are decent, many fall short with promises of teaching a person to play guitar. One of the most popular software programs is called Jamorama. According to the website, this particular program has guided many people to success of playing guitar.

While it certainly is affordably priced, many of my students wonder if Jamorama really lives up to its hype. This is why I decided to compile a summary of each Jamorama review I read, showing both positives and negatives.

Ben Edwards, a talented and reputable guitar teacher and guitarist who toured the international circuit, has taken his years of experience and powerful ability to create a program that would help teach people of all ages how to play guitar. In doing in-depth research through one Jamorama review after another, we found that as much as 97% of guitarists found learning to play was not quite as easy as they thought. The primary challenge has to do with the old way of learning, which is time-consuming and often boring.

In this Jamorama review article, we wanted to share some thoughts, both good and bad, coming directly from individuals who have purchased and tried the program.

Jamorama Review Pros:

Most reviews for this guitar software program were pretty good. The following are some of the most common “pro” responses seen:

* Complete Package – In our Jamorama review of the pros, we have found that people love the complete package. In other words, Jamorama comes with over 100 video lessons and systematic instruction on TAB, sight-reading, chord identification, and much more.

* Fun – With any type of learning, students need to have fun. As mentioned, many of the old methods for teaching guitar are boring, which means people lose interest. However, almost every Jamorama review showed that this software program has eliminated boredom and replaced it with fresh learning methods.

* Online Material – With Jamorama, you use the internet to learn to play guitar. This collection includes downloadable e-books, as well as video/audio files and games. This is said to be an easier way of learning, because you go at your own pace.

* Quick Learning – Every Jamorama review we read stated that learning to play guitar needs to not only be fun but also quick. Again, the main problem with older methods of teaching was that it took so long for a person to see results. Most reviews stated that learning with Jamorama definitely cut out some of the learning curve in teaching yourself guitar.

Jamorama Review Cons:

The majority of information we found on Jamorama found was positive. However, we did find a couple of downfalls to this program:

* Advanced Learning – In a few reviews for Jamorama, buyers agreed that the material for beginners was entertaining, amusing, and useful. However, these individuals also felt the advanced portion of the program did not offer enough or a high enough caliber of features. It seems that Jamorama is best suited for beginners, not intermediate players.

* Animation – In this case, we saw a few comments specific to the lack of animation for the fret board. In fact, one particular Jamorama review stated the animation for feedback on performance, repetition looping, and music tracking lacked pizzazz. This might not be very important for most people, but it seemed to be a common complaint.

As you can see, each Jamorama review we read was positive for the most part. Of course, there are always some negatives inherent to any product, and Jamorama is no exception.

Does the phrase, Learn To Play Guitar Software, lead you to assume that it must be an advanced and therefore highly effective way to learn music? You certainly are not alone if that is what you think. Let’s explore exactly what current popular guitar lesson software can and cannot do for a budding guitarist. Then let’s compare it to the all-video DVD lesson format.

First of all, Guitar Software does not automatically insure that the music lessons will be of higher quality than other types of media like video DVDs. Using software for lessons is primarily a way to accomplish two things:

1. To conveniently emulate a guitarist’s tools like a metronome, tab data, a chord chart and tuner.

2. To organize different kinds of media like audio, video, the written word, photos, illustrations and the specialty tools mentioned above.

There are many guitar course software programs on the market today that are well thought out, with lots of features that seem fantastic. Unfortunately from my experience reviewing many of these instructional programs, I have often discovered that slick software is just a way to improve or even cover up a mediocre guitar lesson eBook.

What About The Full Video DVD Guitar Lessons format?

Full Video DVD Guitar lessons programs differ from software style programs in that they more closely emulate what takes place if you have a live lesson with an excellent instructor. The downside is that if you wish to use a tool like a metronome you must acquire one separately.

The Advantages Of The Full Video DVD Format

1. Full Video DVDs Often Contain More Information And Are Easier To Understand: Simply stated, we tend to learn by observing another person explain and demonstrate a task followed by our repeated attempts to emulate them. Long video lesson segments from the top DVD Video courses with world-class instructors can provide the most direct way to understand the subtleties of each lesson in ways that just aren’t possible with the short video snippets found in some software formats.

2. Full Video DVDs Can Be Watched On Large TV Screens: With Guitar Software you are often left to read the written word, look at static diagrams and if you are very lucky, watch short video clips on a relatively small computer screen. Critical fingering details can be difficult to see.

3. Guided Practice Sessions: Another huge benefit of a good all-video DVD lesson program is that some offer guided practice sessions. This means that the instructor not only teaches new concepts but also practices with you. I cannot over-emphasize the importance of this feature. One of the most under taught guitar skills is learning how to practice like the pros.

So Is All Guitar Software A Waste Of Time?

No, not at all. I am aware of one surprisingly inexpensive beginner guitar lesson software program that does an excellent job for the price. If you cannot afford 0 to 0 for a comprehensive all video DVD program by a top instructor then this software can be a reasonable alternative for about .

The Bottom Line

For most beginner through intermediate guitar students I would recommend finding an all video DVD set from a top player/instructor that comes with a written reference book or printable files. Often the good programs offer payment programs or in some cases permit you to buy one DVD from the set at a time.

The bottom line is that it’s all about the quality of the lessons and not the cleverness of the lesson format. Unless your budget is very tight, do not be dazzled by the current Learn to Play Guitar Software.
