Guitar Courses Reviewed: Most Aren't Worth A Lick!

What are some good guitar techniques, habits, i should practice when playing guitar?

I just started playing guitar about 3 months ago and i would like to know what I should practice be better at guitar. I'm looking for exercises, techniques, and things that i should not get into, such as bad playing positions, blah blah.

Thanks.

Few things you should avoid
1. Hold the plectrum properly between thumb and upper index finger
2. Use all your fingers including your pinkie instead of short cuts
3. Hold the string just behind the frets without pressing down on the frets themselves.

I found this website useful for guitarist and has the kind of exercises you want in sheet and tab form

One of the best exercises

Fingering: The 1st Finger presses against the 1st fret, 2nd against 2nd fret, 3rd against 3rd fret and 4th against 4th fret. This is known as the one fret per finger rule.

Form: The figure should be just behind the fret you want to play on. Ideally the left hand finger should be approximately perpendicular to the fret board. (You should keep your nails shortened to be able to play). The right hand should use alternate picking one upstroke followed by one down stroke of the plectrum.

Do use some videos to supplement this material… Would be great help to get checked by a guitarist at various stages of your development to ensure that you are not picking up any bad habits while playing
