I have been playing guitar for awhile and I want to know what the best electric and acoustic guitar would be for people who like to play rock.
I'm not a guitar player, but I have a lot of friends who are. Many are professionals.
I just called 5 of them to get their opinions. They swear by three electrics: Fender Stratocaster, Gibson Les Paul and Fender Telecaster. 2 prefered the Strat, 2 prefered the Les Paul, and 1 preferred the Tele.
4 of them suggested, for someone on a limited income (not saying you are, but in case you want to keep the price lower) who doesn't want to break the bank, you can get a very good American made Strat for under $400 used. A used Les Paul will run you more they say.
Their opinions on acoustics varied. Gibson, Takamine, Martin, Taylor are names mentioned. Most suggested getting an acoustic-electric, an acoustic with a pickup.
