I really want to play electric guitar……………….but I'm a musical retard. I have a book on how to learn electric guitar but I know nothing about octaves, scales, notes etc. I got an electric guitar for christmas in 2007 but I don't know how to tune or play it. Is there any program or book that teaches you EVERYTHING you need to know to play electric guitar.
Hey, man. I have been playing for nine years and have been in a lot of bands, and in my opinion tabs are not good at all if you want to learn guitar. My advise would be to check out Guitar for Dummies from the library and see if you like it. I think this is one of the most comprehensive guitar books available, and it comes with a cd, which is very helpful.
Books are good, but lessons are better. If you can take lessons from a jazz guitarist, you will be able to play almost anything after about two years. The reason that it is imporant to take from a jazz guy is that he will teach you how to make your own music and how to improvise, rather than just covering other people's songs. I don't really enjoy that much jazz guitar music, but I wouldn't trade my jazz background for anything.
