when playing guitar do you play notes or do you put your hands on the frets and strings you want?

when your playing eletric guitar in a band, do you play notes like A, B, C ect. or do you put your hands on the right frets you want, and the strings ( so there not classifed as notes ) thanks

usually if you are playing an electric guitar you play chords called ‘Power Chords’. They have a stronger sound than normal chords like A, C,E,G etc….
