I’ve been playing piano for 7 years and guitar for 2 years. For guitar, I use standard notation for my songs. Some tell me that standard notation is more professional than tabs, and others tell me that most people use tabs. Which is more professional to use?
As far as guitar, tabs are far superior. Whether they look more professional who cares?
Lets say standard notation indicates an E note…the E space in the F-A-C-E bit.
Well, on piano, it’s easy to say that’s the first E above middle C, but on guitar… where is this E?
Is it on the 1st string open?
Is it on the 2nd string at the 5th fret?
Is it on the 3rd string at the 9th fret?
Knowing exactly where the E note should be played, makes all the difference in whether a piece is difficult or easy on guitar.
This is the one area where tabs are far superior to standard notation.
